It's funny that I got home from my Romania GV trip exactly one year ago today. I still remember that awesome Taco dinner my Mom had ready to go and the birthday cake she had for Chris. Even more fun, still, that I start my next GV blog on that anniversary.
What isn't funny, however, is that my Romania roommate, Rebecca, and I will be the leaders of this next team. We each came up with the idea separately after Valerie announced she is pregnant. I just knew that was going to happen. She and her husband, Greg, had been trying for quite some time. It certainly is a blessed event, but she will be missed greatly, I am sure, by all of us accustomed to her seemingly flawless trip execution.
Rebecca and I just went through team leader training in Minneapolis this past weekend. It was a very long two days with a lot of information thrown at us and crammed into two eight-hour days in a conference room. It was while stuck at JFK for my flight out that I came up with the idea for another blog. And here we are now.
Here's what I wrote after we finally took off more than two hours late: Let’s hope that the start of this training weekend is not an indicator of how well Rebecca and I will do leading the trip to Argentina. I’m writing from somewhere over Ohio as we speak. We took off from JFK airport in NY sometime after 11:30PM. (We were supposed to take off at 9:10.) When I get home, I’m writing to Sun Country Airlines and filing a complaint. This is absolutely ridiculous. Now Rebecca has to pick me up at the airport after 1 AM. I’d say that’s an inconvenience, but I am travelling from NYC only for the weekend. What I wouldn’t give for my comfy bed and pillow-top mattress right about now. Plus I missed the season premieres of Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, and ER. (I also missed its season finale in May. I haven’t missed two episodes in a row since season three when I stopped watching for a while).
And here's what I wrote while waiting another two hours for my delayed flight home (I shake an angry fist at you MSP airport for only having one runway open): Well, the training went really well. Definitely allayed a lot of our fears and uncertainties regarding the trip in May. Val just sent so much information in the span of a few days that it was all very overwhelming. All of these attachments we had no idea what to do with. Now we know how everything works and can go full steam ahead with planning. Val is pretty much out of the picture right now. And nothing has been planned. There have been suggestions on lodging and such, but no reservations.
I think that's enough for now. Definitely watch out for weekly updates. We still have to finalize the budget and finish recruiting. Fun stuff, I know.
